Town Hall Meeting 7-8pm
NEW DRUG THREATS: A 10NEWS TOWN HALL
WHAT: 10News would like to invite members of the community to join the audience as we learn about the newest drugs to affect our community, such as synthetic marijuana and “bath salts”. The town hall-style discussion will air live on WBIR.
WHEN: 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23
WHERE: The Square Room at 4 Market Sq. (same building as Cafe 4) in downtown Knoxville
OUR PANEL: State lawmakers, members of law enforcement, doctors, school officials, and drug abuse experts
WHY: USA Today recently cited a study showing more than 10% of high school seniors had used synthetic substances with street names like “Spice” and “K2.” Some mimic the effects of marijuana but can have serious side effects like anxiety attacks or suicidal thoughts. Just this month, Knoxville police raided several businesses suspected of illegally selling drugs like these. The town hall will focus on what these drugs are, the dangerous effects they can have, and what you can do about them. Since young people are often a target, we will discuss how to best educate kids who may be unaware of the risks.
We hope you’ll join us for this important discussion!
